Hi and welcome to my first blog: the biography of Walt Disney. I’m sure you’ve heard of him. Walt Disney is a famous film producer, media magnate and co-founder of the Walt Disney Company.
Walt Disney is a man who died at the age of 65. He has short brown hair and a light-colored skin. He was 5’ 10 ‘’ tall. Disney was a shy, self-deprecating and insecure man in private but had a warm and outgoing personality in public. Some people accused him of being racist and anti-Semitic, but those accusations were contradicted by many who knew him. Disney always had high expectations and standards of the people with whom he worked.
When Walt was growing up, he had a poor family, and a rough childhood. Before he became famous, Walt Disney worked as an ambulance driver for the Red Cross during World War I. He soon returned home, where he won a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. He met a fellow animator, Ub Iwerks and they set up their own company. In the early 1920s, they made a series of animated shorts for the Newman theater chain, entitled “Newman’s Laugh-O-Grams”. Their company soon went bankrupt, however.
The two then went to Hollywood in 1923 where they started work on a new series, Alice Comedies. Hundreds of Alice Comedies were produced before they lost popularity.
His success began when he started doodling on a piece of paper on his way home. That’s when he created Mickey Mouse. With only Walt and Ub to animate, and Walt’s wife Lillian Disney and Roy’s wife Edna Disney to ink in the animation cells, three Mickey Mouse cartoons were quickly produced. The first two didn’t sell, so Walt added synchronized sound to the last one, Steamboat Willie, and it was immediately picked up. Walt gave the mouse a voice and so it became a great success.
In 1934, he started working on another new idea: a cartoon that ran the length of a feature film. With Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs, he won one big and seven little special Oscars. He started producing more of the animated features: Pinokkio, Bambi and Dombo were all successes. Nothing could stop Disney now. As a film producer, Disney holds the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual, having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations.
Walt disney was a heavy smoker which caused him lung cancer. He died at the age of 65.
The reason I admire Disney is because he never gave up on what he wanted to do, despite what happened.
